Community Project – Community Food Bank of New Jersey

For my community project I decided to go to the community food bank of NJ on April 27th event held by the center of leadership and service which is a Kean university organization that provides opportunities for leadership development training, community service involvement, service learning, campus organizational development and serves as a connection point for participation in volunteer activities. The center of leadership and service give the students the opportunity to get a better academic experience, extracurricular activities, problem solving, and help the students in all aspects. This organizations also give job opportunities, many of the workers of this organization are Kean university students.
When I register for the event of the community food bank I was not sure what I was going to do there but I know that I was going to help someone who needs it. First, I choose to go by my own so they tell me that I had to be there at 11 am, when we got there, first, they put us in a conference room gave us blue shirts with the Cougar Volunteers logo and told us what were we going to do. After, that they took us to another room where we have to pack pasta into boxes so they can deliver them to the different locations. They had big boxes with pasta and we had to put the pasta into little bags, and pack small boxes with 16 bags of pasta, then put them into panels. We were packing for almost two hours and finish everything by 1:30 pm.
Participating in this event makes me feel very well because I knew that I was doing something good for the community. I know that are many people that has many needs and know that I contribute with that makes me feel nice. I would do it again and any other community service. It was a great experience and help us with our teamwork, we all work together even though we did not know each other and it was not for money, just for help.
